The Interest & Identity Lab
About
Meet Kelly Pickens:
ADHD Trailblazer, Neurodivergent Disruptor, and Professional Cake Mixer of Science, Soul, and Systems.
A seasoned Family Nurse Practitioner with 21+ years in clinical practice, Kelly doesn’t just work with neurodivergence — she lives it, names it, and reframes it. Whether she’s building the NICE (Neurodivergent Identity & Comprehensive Experience) Index ADHD Assessment or delivering standing-room-only talks like "ADHD and Rejection Sensitivity: A Guide for Clinicians and Everyone Else," hosted by Dr. Donna Henderson, she’s leading the charge with metaphor-rich insights and unapologetically affirming care.
Kelly’s work is where lived experience meets clinical expertise, grounded in fierce compassion and a deep understanding that we don’t need to be "fixed" — we need to be understood.
Through her ventures like Undivided Attention and The Interest & Identity Lab, she’s turning her signature ADHD stress cycle framework into tools that heal, educate, and empower — one client, clinician, and community at a time.
Our services
What we do:
Grounded in the Interest-Driven Nervous System (IDNS) framework, we provide clinicians with the tools to conduct comprehensive assessments, medication consultations, and implement our signature psychoeducational programming - The Interest & Identity Series - to help neurodivergent individuals understand themselves more fully and thrive in an interest-aligned life.
Through the NICE (Neurodivergent Identity & Comprehensive Experience) Index assessment and the IDNS psychoeducation program, we aim to empower clinicians with paradigm-shifting knowledge to provide evidence-informed and effective care for those with ADHD.
We're on a mission:
1). To challenge neuro-ableism, the construct of Executive Functions as skills, and the deeply ingrained and pervasive implicit bias towards neurotypicality and intrinsic motivation.
2). To redefine ADHD care by moving beyond deficit-based models, while still acknowledging disability, and embracing a neuro-affirming, strengths-based approach that recognizes the deep connection between motivation, cognition, and identity.
